From left to right: Stephane "Skinne" Raskin, Gert "Moes" Maes, Wim De Ceuster, Stijn "Quinten/Kwik" Vaernewyck
The name Refky originates from the time we all lived together in Antwerp. We were all graduated from school and we've just started working, we were young and had cash on our hands.
It was a Saturday night at the youth club, when Gert mentioned that he was doubting to take on a new job in Antwerp. At that time Wim was based at a client in Antwerp and was nagging about commuting. After a few more drinks and a lively discussion, Gert & Wim decided it was time to leave the rural area of Herentals and move to the big city.
It did not take us long to find 2 more partners in crime. Stijn was also working in Antwerp and when we arrived at the youth club, he was convinced in seconds. Later that night the three of us went to the pub "De Max" where we met with the last of the four stooges. To our surprise, it did not take long either before Stephane was convinced.
One week later the four of us where already driving around in a car, looking for a house to rent. Three weeks later we moved to Antwerep.
Anyway, back to the origin of the name Refky. Four young guys living together: you can imagine that not a lot of attention was being paid to food preparation. We had other stuff to do. So we usually ordered pizza or went to get french fries or something of the sort. In fact, the number of times the kitchen stove was used can probably be counted on a single hand.
It was actually the guy taking orders at the pizza shop that came up with the name Refky. Why that guy misspelled Raskin as Refky remains a mystery to us. Was it because of the poor quality of the network or because Stephane was not capable of pronouncing his family name correctly? In any case, the name Refky was born and we've been using it ever since.
During the time we stayed in Antwerp that pizza place was able to extend its business and they opened up a second location in Antwerp.
We're sure that ordering 4 pizza's almost each and every day contributed to the success of the pizza place.
A few years later, after moving back to Herentals, a pizza was ordered at a new pizza place in our home town.
When the pizza delivery guy rang the doorbell, the door was opened and the first thing the guy said was: Huh, Refky ?
Seems that they also followed us back to Herentals..
